... right you are. Realized that about 10 seconds after posting.
Gotta clean my monitor screen more often. :-)

Yes, I agree it is a pain, especially on SGI platforms where unless
you tell the linker explicitly (or set LD_LIBRARY_PATH), the runtime
loader will not properly resolve the path. That, at least, is one
thing that Sun gets right on their dynamic loading.
