OK, indeed, (8,2) worked. Still, if the ticks generator is to be fixed,
I would vote for one thing:

In previous version the generator was much more flexible. E.g. for
bounds set to (-0.3,8.3) and no. of ticks to 9, it created ticks at
integral values (0, 1, ... 8), exactly where I expected them. Now it
seems to be more rigid - no matter what are the bounds, it starts
"ticking" from the very beginning of the axis (-0.3, 0.7, 1.7 ...) which
is rather not very smart of it. The plot looks nicer (in many
situations) if the tick labelling does not start from the very lower
left corner, where (as it is now) first labels of X and Y gets very
close. The same thing for "upper" limits - it is usually nicer to have
the last label of X and Y not at the edge of the plot. And still, if
somebody wants it, there is a possibility of setting the bounds to exact
integral values which would force starting and ending the ticks at both
ends of the axis.

regards,

Michal.
