To subscribers of the xforms list from Martin Bartlett <martin@nitram.demon.co.uk> :

Xforms4Perl VERSION 0.7 NOW AVAILABLE

Announcing the release of Xforms4Perl version 0.7 (a binding of the
xforms GUI toolkit API for Perl scripts). It can be found at

ftp://ftp.demon.co.uk/pub/mirrors/perl/CPAN/authors/Martin_Bartlett

or a CPAN mirror site near you. Also soon to be found on

ftp://ftp.demon.co.uk/pub/perl/perl

Red Hat RPMs for Linux are available at:

ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/devel/powercd/RPMS/
under platform dependent directories (alpha, i386, and sparc)

or a Red Hat mirror near you (if they mirror the devel directories).

The files are:

For RPM installation on Linux:

Xforms4Perl-0.7-1.<platform>.rpm

For tar file installation on other platforms:

Xforms4Perl-0.7.tgz The distribution
Xforms4Perl-0.7.text A description
Xforms4Perl-0.7.readme (CPAN sites only - the readme
that is included in the
distribution).
Big hilites:

. Supports practically all 0.81 thru 0.86 functionality
. Smaller still than version 0.6
. Fdesign filter to automatically produce Perl form definition code
from fdesign output.
. Conversion script that converts 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 scripts to 0.7
. Can live alongside 0.4 (See README for details).
. Radically simplified installation procedure.
. Many platform-specific bugs and other issues resolved.
. Requires Perl5.002 or above. Version 0.4 still available at the
second site mentioned above for Perl5.001/xforms0.81.

This release consolidates the results of much testing performed on many
platforms by people who get a mention in the README. In particular the
installation is very much easier and, on the tested platforms, diagnostic
free, and a fair number of bugs have been cleared up. Building the RPM
resulted in a number of distribution directory rationalizations.

Again, a warning to user of 0.4 and 0.5. There have been further
name-space changes introduced in order to bring this package into line
with other CPAN Perl packages. There is a conversion script that will
make the necessary changes to your scripts.

There is due to be an article on Xforms4Perl in an upcoming issue of
'Linux Journal' (being written by Raiza Naima). The article will be based
on 0.5 but I will post the few amendments necessary to run 0.7 to the
publishers after the article appears.

Enjoy

PS. For Linux users - you might be interested to know that xforms 0.86
itself can also be found as an RPM at the above mentioned Red Hat site and
its mirrors. Additionally both xforms and Xforms4Perl will be on the next
release of the Red Hat PowerCD product.
