Yes and yes.

This is mentioned in the manual although there is a minor error.

At the top of page 132 in the 0.87 manual it says "atoi(3) or
sprintf(3) should be used to convert the string to the proper date
type you need." I believe that should be "atoi(3) or sscanf(3)..."
instead. You may also want to mention atof(3).
