It's pretty easy to write your own mixer. I wrote one with XForms but I
never finished it (I wanted it to be able to _play_ files too, including
MPEG audio, and I'm not smart enough to do that). Anyway, the mixer
portion of my program already works; it auto-senses the mixer interfaces
on your card, which you can select from a menu, then a slider is used to
do the adjustment. It's even supposed to have a VU meter which I can't get
to work. :)

I have tested this under Linux with my soundcard (Crystal CS4236B 16-bit
PnP full-duplex) but since it uses Linux /dev/mixer should work with
anything. I'll send you the source code if you're interested. And it works
with both 0.81 and 0.85 XForms (I haven't tested it with 0.86, it's that
old).
