Actually what I was attempting to say was that is how the library is
built and not that you should necessarily use them in your compile
line.

In any case, I think we're off on the wrong tangent trying to
statically link libforms -- I don't really think this is going to help
you track down the pointer problem. The debugger should to the right
thing in a traceback, even with dynamically loaded libraries -- at
least that's my experience with gdb and dbx.

How it looks to me is that your program (or the library, I suppose)
has managed to walk on something. I just did a little test program
which does nothing but load and display a 512x512 Xpm Pixmap and it
works as expected (SunOS and IRIX).

I think you need to look elsewhere.
