Use a private Colormap if you're willing to take the annoyance of
Colormap flashing when you enter and leave the form.

Otherwise, if you're not, you'll need to do some color quantization.
Again, I have made freely available a color quantization library at
<ftp://ncmir.ucsd.edu/pub/quantize> that may be useful in dealing with
your problem. Be sure you're not duplicating any colors that XForms
already, by default, assigns or being used in the default Colormap. A
certain amount of frugality in this respect can lead to useful
optimizations.

Check the manual discussion on resources in Appendix C for information
on requesting a private Colormap.
