Is this just an XForms problem or is this a more generic X problem?
What segfaults? Can you get a traceback using a debugger?

Briefly describe the contents of the windows -- is there anything
special about them -- for instance are you doing graphics with MesaGL
or some other graphics API?

Perhaps but if you have set your LD_LIBRARY_PATH then there shouldn't
be any problem. Also, on what system is the /usr/openwin/lib -- the
client side or the server side. Only the client side should matter
since the server will have no "knowledge" of XForms whatever.

What version(s) of Linux? What hardware? What version(s) of X11?

Without more information, one can only guess.
