Yes, this is a known problem and there's a solution. The problem is
that the resolution of the fonts on your SGI is different than the
resolution of the fonts on your Linux box and the SGI characters are
larger for the same point size (yes, this sounds confusing and stupid
and, in my opinion, it is both -- I wish that vendors would get their
font act together).

XForms Input object text is suppressed if it exceeds the size of the
input box.

Resize the input box so that it's a little larger and that should make
the problem go away.

You may also wish to use `fdesign''s `-compensate' flag. This will
help (but not always completely cure) your font problems.
