Realistically, if we are going to use TAB based navigation (and this seems to
be what my users expect) then it should be applied consistantly. Users are not
aware that there is a distinction between single and multi-line inputs (and
there is no reason why they should be).
The problem I have is that there is a multiline input field in the middle of
a form.. TAB navigation stops at this point, which rather de-values it and
confuses users.

I would support this.. I wonder if the TAB navigation should also allow
toggles and buttons to be included. Again a flag could control this behavior,
preferably a seperate flag for each..
It seems TABs are generally causing me a lot of bother at the moment..
So, to complete the set of 3 (the other one being my recent mail
about strange focus and cursor problems on tabbed folders) the use of TAB
in text in browsers etc. is giving me some problems too. This one is an
issue for formating output..
Is there any way to have variable width tabs within one line..
I want to have a list of stuff in a browser like
12: Description other info
161: different description longer other info
What I would like to do is set 2 tab-stops
12: Description error info
^ ^
trouble is the only tab-setting function I've found just sets a single constant
width tab, which would be fine for the first one, but then I cant see how
to work out how many tabs to put between the 2nd and 3rd fields.
Any thoughts on that one too would be appreciated..
Cheers
Clive
