Is this the difference between the 'release' version and the 'indication of
the binary compatibility of the libraries' version thingy that confused us
way back when? Is there no place that we can ask for advice? Someone must
understand this stuff.

I don't know about you, but I think of this release as the 'autotools'
release. Would be nice therefore if we finished it off before release and
never had to worry about any of this crap ever again...

Yes. Where would it go? In INSTALL, or is that simply the generic stuff.
Incidentally, (now that I have repaired your breakage of 'make rpmdist' ;-P),
would it make sense to create an xforms-demos src rpm. I guess that there is
little point creating a binary of same... Hmmm, I'm not sure that would work,
since the Makefile assumes that fdesign is to be found in ../fdesign/fdesign.
Let's leave that then ;-)
