Hello,
I have a general question, and also a more specific one. From a
general point of view; Just how compatible are the various releases of
the xforms shared library? When new versions of the shared library are
released, do I need to rebuild my apps built against the old version.
More specifically, I'm curious about this because when I run
ldconfig after installing libforms.so.0.88 (Linux, libc5), it did *not*
create a soft link for libforms.so.0 and libforms.so (like it does for
most shared libs). I got the following ldconfig output;
# ldconfig -v /usr/X11R6/lib
ldconfig: version 1.7.14
/usr/X11R6/lib:
libforms.so.0.88 => libforms.so.0.88
... etc ...
I'm guessing that this is because libforms was linked without the use
of the -soname option (shared library name). So was this; 1) a simple
oversight, in which case I can create the soft links for libforms.so,
libforms.so.0 by hand, or 2) the soname was omitted for a reason (ie:
the library functions, API between versions have not stabilized yet?)
Best Regards, John
