Hm. Well, that's certainly the current version.

Just to verify, what happens when you type

fdesign -version

? You should see something like

proteus:spl> fdesign -version
fdesign (FORM Designer) Beta 0.53 of 1998/02/22 05:47:03
Copyright (c) 1996-1998 by T.C. Zhao and Mark Overmars

Although `fdesign' should be statically linked with respect to the
XForms library, perhaps there's some sort of library skew. In Linux
is there the equivalent of the SunOS `ldd' command which will cause
the names dynamic libraries to be regurgitated? You might try using
that to see what you get.

Other than that, I'd have to guess that there's some low level (Xlib
or libc) problem.
